Megan Charland is an interdisciplinary artist based in Rochester, NY with 15+ years working in the visual arts field.
Charland has an MFA in Visual Studies from Visual Studies Workshop (2013), a graduate certificate in Arts Administration from The College at Brockport (2013), and a BFA in Fine Art Photography from Rochester Institute of Technology (2008).
Her work is predominantly based in photography.
After graduating from high school in 2004 Charland's mother gifted her Jerry Uelsmann's photobook Other Realities. Uelsmann's work and process has been an influence of hers ever since, particularly his concept of post-visualization.
Apart from Uelsmann, Charland was also influenced early on by the photographic works of John Baldessari and Francesca Woodman.
Charland is also the Director of Photography & Digital Arts at Flower City Arts Center and a curator for Women in Photography.
